Saulkrasti is the centre of Saulkrasti municipality on the coast of the Gulf of Riga, known as a popular seaside resort approximately 40 km from Riga. The population increases significantly in summer, but even for permanent residents driving skills are an everyday necessity — the nearest larger towns and services are in Riga or Limbaži.
Driver training in Saulkrasti is limited — the town itself often has no permanent driving school branch, so students most commonly use schools based in Riga or Limbaži. Several schools offer instructors in the Saulkrasti area as part of a wider branch network, which makes organising driving lessons considerably easier.
The driving environment in Saulkrasti varies between seasons — in summer there is busy coastal traffic with tourists, cyclists and pedestrians, while in winter it is quieter but the risk of icy roads increases significantly due to the coastal microclimate.
