Ikšķile is a town in Ogre municipality on the banks of the Daugava, known as one of the oldest inhabited sites in Latvia. It lies approximately 30 km from Riga along the A6 road and is a popular place of residence for people who work in the capital but prefer a quieter, more rural setting.
For Ikšķile students, a driving licence is often not merely desirable but necessary — public transport to Riga, while available, is not always convenient in the evenings or at weekends. Driving on the roads of the Daugava valley, along the Ogre highway and through the surrounding area, where traffic ranges from quiet to busy, provides good practice for a variety of situations.
The range of driving schools in Ikšķile itself is limited, but both Ogre and Riga schools actively work with students from Ogre municipality. Several schools can arrange instructor visits in Ikšķile or the surrounding area. Theory training is most commonly done in an e-learning format, which avoids extra trips to town just for theory classes.
For the CSDD examination, Ikšķile students most often need to travel to Ogre or Riga.
